INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
A great way to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and learn about human services case management is through an internship. The McHenry County Agency currently accepts intern applications in undergraduate and graduate level courses to work alongside our Staff.

Interested applicants should email their resume to info@bbbsmchenry.org and include:
  • If the internship is for a undergraduate or graduate degree
  • The internship length requirements
  • The semester/season(s) the internship needs to occur in

Undergraduate (B.S.W) Internship
Students obtaining their Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or other human services related majors can apply to intern with Big Brothers Big Sisters to learn and understand case management by assisting program staff.

Intern case management includes, but is not limited to:
  • Referrals, inquiry, and orientation
  • Intake
  • Assessment
  • Eligibility Determination
  • Match Recommedation
  • Matching
  • Supervision
  • Closure of Cases
  • Record Keeping, Documentation
  • Maintenance of Confidential Records

Graduate Social Work (M.S.W.) Internship
Students who have acquired a Bachelor's Degree and are working toward a Master's Degree in Social Work (M.S.W.) can apply for an internship with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Graduate level interns gain experience in mentoring, school-based preventation, crisis intervention, deliquency intervention, and child welfare.
Development & Marketing Internship
Students looking for experience in marketing, fundraising, public relations, and/or event planning are invited to apply for an internship with the Development Department. Depending on the area of interest, interns will receive hands-on experience assisting the Development Manager with different facets of Marketing, Fund Development, and/or Event Planning.
The Development Internship includes opportunities to learn about donor cultivation, stewardship, sponsorship relations, and database management, as well as assist with event-planning.
The Marketing Internship includes opportunities to research, design, and/or create recruitment materials, fundraising documents, as well as manage website and social media content for the agency.

Executive Internship
Work alongside the Executive Director to observe and practice nonprofit Executive skills, increase organizational knowledge, and more. Interns will work with the Executive Director to learn about strategic planning, market share research, and interpersonal skills.
