Community-Based Mentoring   Referring a Child to BBBS

What is universal to being a Big Brother or Big Sister is that most Bigs start out thinking they'll give something back, yet most end up saying "I get back so much more than I give."

Community-based and site-based program models exist to provide flexibility for both Bigs and Littles.  Community-based programs support a Big spending time with their Little, as a friend, on a regular, consistent basis, sharing activities that both enjoy. Most Bigs meet with their Littles on weekends, doing "weekend things" like going to ball games, baking cookies, or walking in the park. Bigs are asked to give at least a one year commitment to their Little.

In site-based programs, Bigs and Littles meet at the Little's school once a week for an hour. Activities often include the Big helping with homework, playing board games, reading together, or just talking about what's on the child's mind. Bigs are asked to make at least a year long commitment to their Little.
